概要	Migration within mobile telecommunication ecosystem from 3G to 4G is discussed as something what is inevitable and is fast proceeding. One of the enabling factors of this phenomenon is the rapid diffusion of smartphones. The sales of smartphones are surpassing feature phones. Comparatively inexpensive costs for both development and production are regarded as the reason. However, there seem to be a lot of problems in relation to these phenomena. This study deals with the aspects of relationship between the diffusion of smartphones and personality among students of Matsuyama University. In Japan, the migration from 3G to 4G mobile phone systems assumes switching handsets hardware from feature phones to smartphones. It is, however, at the same time, working as some kinds of compulsory adoption. There are fears, which relate smartphone, such as privacy divulgence. This study presents results from survey about the use of smartphones and the applications among young students. It also uses variables of the Big Five Test of Personality Traits to investigate the relationship of smartphone usage and personality. This study will serve as a food for thoughts for policy makers, service providers and academia about how migration from 3G to 4G may be designed.
