概要 | The advent of the Internet is certainly changing our lives. The Internet creates a cyber world that connects people living far apart in different countries. Communication in the cyber world has become inexpensive and richer than ever. We can virtually “feel” no difference between chatting with the person sitting in the next room and one on the other side of the planet. The Internet is useful and practical. Some argue that the Internet is nothing more than a tool. However, I feel something in the Internet that is more than that. The argument of the Internet as a tool is correct, yet we should remind ourselves what a tool had brought to the society and had influenced its transformations. Steam engines were one of the important foundations of the Industrial Revolution. The source of energy changed, transportation changed, the way of production changed, the ownership of the production changed and governance changed. In short, our lives were totally transformed by the invention of the Steam Engine–a mere “tool.” Revolutionary tools bring a huge impact on society, and the Internet is a revolutionary tool. |
